Round two of the 2015 Bridgestone 4x4 Club Challenge attracted 40 teams to the Leeuwenkloof 4x4 facility near Hartbeespoort Dam. The event marked the halfway mark of
the qualifying phase of the competition. The top performers in these four qualifying rounds book themselves a berth in the six-round knock-out series later in the year.

With heavy rains preceding this second qualifying round, some of the novice crews had a tough time on the trail, while the more experienced teams adapted quickly to the conditions
and raked in the points.

The never-say-die spirit often seen during the Club Challenge was exemplified by Ian van Zyl in a Nissan Patrol. His co-driver cancelled the evening before the event, so the obvious
decision would have been to withdraw from the competition. But Ian would have none of it – he tackled the obstacles all by himself!

At a couple of obstacles co-drivers from other teams acted as spotters for Ian and his big Patrol, but for the most part he was on his own and managed to score 250 points!

Another team who had an eventful, albeit brief, day was the Toyota Hilux 4x4 crew of Rick Scholtz and Tommy Ferreira. At their very first obstacle of the day they bogged down in a
muddy ditch, and there was more misery to come: the Toyota's starter motor gave up the ghost, forcing the team into retirement after a tricky recovery

Overall though, it was defending Bridgestone 4x4 Club Challenge Champion, Jaco van Zyl, partnered by his wife Karen, who won this second qualifying round in their legendary 50
year-old Land Rover Series 2a. The Lichtenburg team scored 775 points to win a R10 000 Bridgestone tyre voucher and a place in the upcoming knock-out rounds.

The second-place scorecard was just ten points adrift of the winners, and was tied by two Suzuki Jimnys: Flip Kotze and Herman Steyn, and Gerrit and Theuns Snyman. This
nailbiting finish saw each team walk away with a set of Opposite Lock MRO LED light bars.

The final podium position was claimed by Rudolph and Ria Wolmarans (Jeep Wrangler Rubicon). The team won a Mean Green recovery kit, courtesy of Opposite Lock.

The next qualifying round of the 2015 Bridgestone 4x4 Club Challenge will take place on 18 April at the Leeuwenkloof 4x4 facility.
