Bridgestone Route 69 Mountain Bike Race a huge success

Bridgestone made its official debut into mountain biking this year as the title sponsor for the 2012 Bridgestone Route 69 MTB Experience.

"Bridgestone had been considering sponsorship within the mountain biking event arena for some time now. With almost 900 mountain biking events on the cycling calendar next year, we were careful to do our research thoroughly and been highly selective in chosing both an event and a supporting race organiser we felt could attract and support our high-end target market. We considered the Bridgestone Route 69 MTB Experience, now in its second year and organised by highly respected race organiser Rob Jackson of the Leverage Corporation, to be a platinum event in terms of both the experience it offered the riders and its ideal timing so early in the race calendar," said Jan Maritz, Promotions and Advertising Manager of Bridgestone.

Riders had the option of registering for either the three-day, two-day or one-day event and the rugged route began at Valverde in Muldersdrift on Friday the 24th of February, passing through the historic Cradle of Humankind, and ending up at the luxurious Kloofzicht Lodge, also in The Cradle some three days and 210km later on the 26th of February. It was a well-timed race providing a great opportunity for all serious mountain bikers looking to prepare for some of the popular endurance events taking place in March, April and May.

In 2011, the inaugural event had just over 200 riders take part. In 2012, over 600 riders arrived at the start line to test their skills and fitness. So the event grew in leaps and bounds and promises to be even better in 2013.

By all accounts it was an extremely succesful event, and a number of key Bridgestone stakeholders also took part playing their part and flying the Bridgestone flag.

After the heat and dust had settled, the line honours went to Johan and Fanie Venter of Team Finkel & Koljander is a stunning time of 8hrs, 59 mins and 18 sec.

Taking the overall Ladies win was the Team of The Leverage Corporation Girls in a time of 12 hrs, 23 mins and 17 sec.

The Mixed Team Category went to the Exxaro Team in a time of 9hrs 22mins and 6 secs.

There were a number of category winners in the solo category as well as The Bridgestone Route 69 Weend Experience and The Bridgestone Route 69 Mini Experience. For more information, pease have a look at the webstie:
