Dec 02, 2010

Sixty excited young soccer players from four Brits schools have received a full set of kit thanks to Bridgestone South Africa and the Dreamfields Project.

The tyre company hosted a DreamEvent at its Brits factory, which included a soccer tournament attended by the four schools selected to receive DreamBags " a full set of kit for 15 players including boots, shin pads, balls, a pump, whistles and also kit for the coach. For many of the players, it was the first time they were able to put on their own new kit and boots.

Dreamfieldsis a national project launched in 2007 to introduce resources for playing soccer into township and rural schools across SouthAfrica. This includes providing DreamBags, staging DreamEvents and transforming the places where children play into soccer fields " DreamFields " wherever possible.

The four Brits community schools " Mothotlung and Eletsa high schools and Kutloano and Osaletseng primary schools " took part in a mini soccer tournament and all the players received medals and gifts at a prize-giving after the event. The winning schools " Osalentseng (who beat Kutloano 2-0) and Eletsa (2-0 winners over Mothotlung) " took home a special trophy.

"With all the excitement surrounding the recent FIFA Soccer World Cup, there is bigger interest than ever in South Africa's national sport; we are delighted to be able to contribute towards the development of soccer in schools through the excellent Dreamfields Project," said Mandy Lovell, "perhaps we will discover a future Bafana Bafana star right here in Brits."
