Andrew Leopold wins Bridgestone Award

Nov 10, 2010

Andrew Leopold is the winner of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists" 2010 Bridgestone Steve Dlamini Award for excellence by a young motoring journalist. The 26-year-old from Johannesburg received the floating trophy at a function at Bridgestone South Africa's Isando head office from Bridgestone's chairman and chief executive officer Kenji Shoda.

The award was created in memory of the late motoring editor of City Press newspaper, Steve Dlamini, who died at the age of 32 in a motorcycle accident in February 2008. It recognises outstanding achievement by a motoring journalist who has been in the industry for less than five years and more than two.

Leopold is a BA Journalism graduate from the University of Johannesburg and was employed as an assistant editor of Speed and Sound magazine after completion of his studies. He is currently with MNTV and Radioworx. He was recognised at the 2009 SAGMJ Motoring Journalist of the Year in the magazine category for his writing in Speed and Sound.

Leopold's prize is an all-expenses paid trip to the final round of the FIA Formula One World Championship at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) this weekend as a VIP guest of Bridgestone.
