Bridgestone presents Steve Dlamini Excellence Award

Jun 01, 2009

After the recent and tragic passing away of City Press, Motoring Editor, Steve Dlamini, a man who gave so much to the craft of motoring journalism, Bridgestone South Africa, who have close ties with road safety in this country, decided to offer up the Bridgestone Dlamini Award for exceptional motoring journalism amongst young and upcoming journalists.

Romano Daniels, Bridgestone SA's GM Public Relations, paid an emotional tribute to Dlamini and committed his company to what is and will certainly become a very sought after award going forward.

Berenice Dlamini, Dlamini's widow, City Press Acting Editor, Lizeka Mda, and Yuhiro Kanahara , Bridgestome MD were on hand to hand over this prestigious award to Minesh Bhagaloo, a motoring journalist for the Independent News Group.

Bhagaloo, a guild member for only four years, won an exceptionally close fought battle and was described as having a, "...conversational writing style that is not forced and holds the reader's attention."

Bhagaloo wins a trip to an F1 GP as guests of Bridgestone SA, where he will be able to not only experience F1 was within the pits but will also be given the opportunity to interview at least two F1 drivers.

This is a worthy prize that does justice to the memory of Dlamini and is certainly the Holy Grail for any young petrol head.
