New Firehawk TZ200 tyre launched

Feb 28, 2007

Bridgestone South Africa has launched the Firehawk TZ200 passenger car tyre, which the Gauteng-based manufacturer describes as a touring tyre designed to offer the best of comfort and safety.

"The Firestone Firehawk TZ200 is a peace of mind purchase aimed at the discerning car owner who wants all the performance and safety benefits that Firehawk is known for, but also a high level of comfort at an affordable price," said Johnny Kuroki, Bridgestone South Africa's vice president of sales and marketing.

The TZ200 is the latest version of the company's famous Firehawk brand, which has established itself as one of the world's best-selling tyres. Firehawk is renowned for race-proven performance and features and benefits that make it outstanding value for money.

Traditional Firehawk strengths include superior handling in both wet and dry conditions, a comfortable and quiet ride and exceptional durability and reliability.

Retaining the best features, the new Firehawk TZ200 takes comfort and safety to new levels, applying the latest technology of the world's largest manufacturer of tyres and other rubber products.

It features key technologies of Bridgestone's celebrated UNI-T Ultimate Tyre Technology. Comprehensive Tyre Design Method (CTDM) optimises the contour of the sidewall to achieve better manoeuvrability while maintaining a comfortable drive, and also optimises the tread pattern pitch sequence and ensures non-abrasive noise levels.

Long Linked Carbon (LL Carbon) is a unique compound introduced in the manufacturing stage that minimises rolling resistance, prolongs tyre life and maximises wet and dry grip. Bridgestone's O-Bead provides a more precise and even fit to the wheel rim and improved roundness of the tyre, resulting in an improved ride quality and straight line stability.

Supplementary technologies include new silica tread compound for increased wet grip and reduced rolling resistance; Consistent Surface Contact (CSC) that optimises tread block contact pressure and improves wet and dry handling, comfort and wear; and jointless cap layer to increase cornering performances and crown stability at high speed.

The new Firehawk's tread blocks have a unique lens shape that substantially reduces water turbulence and increases hydroplaning efficiency. The tread block edge is shaped like the nose of a formula racing car to minimise water resistance at the front of the block and improve hydroplaning.

Also unique pattern features are Firehawk's double tie-bar technology that results in more uniform block stiffness distribution and a rounder tyre for increased comfort. A shoulder tyre bar reduces noise and heel-and-toe wear.

The Firestone Firehawk TZ200 will be available in 13 sizes with 9 of these manufactured in Bridgestone's modern tyre factory at Brits in North West and the rest imported from Europe. The locally-made tyres are a product of Bridgestone South Africa's R700 million investment between 2002 and 2006 in upgrading and expansion of the Brits facility the improvements have increased Brits" manufacturing capacity by some 26%.

Bridgestone South Africa is a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, and is the world's largest manufacturer of tyres and other rubber products. Tyres account for 80 per cent of Bridgestone Group sales worldwide. The company also manufactures industrial rubber and chemical products, sporting goods and other diversified products. It sells its tyres in more than 150 nations. For more corporate information visit:
