Breakthrough In Electronic Displays
Tokyo - Bridgestone Corporation has developed a new kind of electronic display that is superior to liquid displays (LCDs). Engineers at the company expect to be ready with a commercially viable version of their technology dubbed Quick Response Liquid Powder Display by the end of 2003.
Underlying the new display technology is a revolutionary material called Electro Liquid Powder that has emerged from Bridgestones ongoing work in electro materials. In Quick Response Liquid Powder Displays, Electro Liquid Powder will generate greater brightness and much faster response than reflection-type LCDs offer.
The displays will be extremely thin and will allow for a broader range of viewing angles than are possible with comparable LCDs. In addition, they will consume less electricity than LCDs.
Bridgestone anticipates applications for the Quick Response Liquid Powder Displays in cellular telephones, notebook computers, personal digital assistants and other portable electronic devices. They also expect demand for their new technology in the emerging market for so-called electronic paper.
