Bridgestone South Africa

5th Anniversary Celebration

Jan 01, 2005

A glittering function at the Theatre on the Track at Kyalami recently marked the celebration of the fifth anniversary of Bridgestone Firestone South Africa.  It was attended by visiting senior executives from Bridgestone in Japan, who joined some 450 guests, including dealers and customers from around the country. The guests were entertained by both traditional Japanese custom and ethnic African tribal song and dance in the form of the African Experience.

BFSA marked the occasion by announcing a further investment of R100 million in the Port Elizabeth and Brits plants, bringing to over R650 million Bridgestone's total investment in South Africa to date.

Mr Takashi Wada, the newly appointed Chairman and CEO of Bridgestone Firestone South Africa, was host for the evening and told the distinguished gathering that Bridgestone recognised the importance of Bridgestone Firestone South Africa as a major player in the export market, not only to Africa but also to Europe.
When Bridgestone Corporation of Japan, the world's largest manufacturer of tyres, took over Firestone South Africa in late 1996, it was the biggest single investment ever by a Japanese company in South Africa.

Visitors from Bridgestone Japan included Mr Keisuke Suzuki, Executive Vice President for original equipment and international operations, Mr Hiromichi Odagiri, Vice President and officer of overseas operations, Mr Kazuhiko Fukuchi, General Manager of the tyre sales department of Mitsui & Company and a non-executive director of BFSA Holdings, and Mr Yunjirou Kanahara, General Manager of the Middle East, Africa and Russia sales department.
