Bridgestone South Africa

New CEO for BFSA

Jan 01, 2005

Mr Takashi Wada has been appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bridgestone Firestone South Africa. He takes over from Mr Kevin Yamamoto, who has been at the helm of Bridgestone Firestone since Bridgestone acquired the Brits and Port Elizabeth tyre manufacturing plants of Fedstone, which was part of the listed industrial group Murray & Roberts, in 1996.

Mr Yamamoto becomes executive chairman of Bridgestone Firestone Maxiprest Limited and remains a director on the board of Bridgestone Firestone South Africa.

Bridgestone Firestone has a 53 per cent shareholding in Maxiprest, the tyre manager, retreader and new tyre distributor it first invested in in 1999.

The "big five" of the Bridgestone Firestone South Africa group are Autoquip, Maxiprest, Quality Tyre, Speedy's and Supa Quick. Mr Wada comes to South Africa with considerable experience, both internationally and with Bridgestone in Japan. He joined the company in Japan in 1972 and has a strong background in sales, having held positions with the Export Sales and European Sales departments in Japan and served as sales representative for Central and South America and the Caribbean countries based in Panama.

He is a former Managing Director of Bridgestone Firestone Spain and was most recently director of Bridgestone Firestone Europe Operations Division in Japan.
