Radial Tyre Technology
Economic stagnation in Japan was brought on by the oil shock of the early 70s. Despite the challenges, Bridgestone was even more focused on establishing its own technology for manufacturing radial tyres and building new tyre plants in Japan.
In 1978, Bridgestone’s Super Filler Radial was placed on the market.
In 1979, Bridgestone released the high-performance Potenza radial tyre.
Expansion into Asia and Oceania
In 1976, Bridgestone began production in Indonesia and Iran, and also invested in a Taiwanese tyre manufacturer with the purchase of a tyre plant.
In 1980, Bridgestone purchased a tyre manufacturing plant and diversified products in Australia.
On September 11, 1976, Shojiro Ishibashi died. During this period of exciting growth and expansion, the Bridgestone family of companies also had to cope with the sad news of the passing of its beloved founder.
In 1971, Bridgestone opened its second plant in South Africa in Brits in the North West Province.
