In 1961, Bridgestone was listed on the stock exchange.
With Shojiro Ishibashi as chairman and Kanichiro Ishibashi as president, the company adopted a new management structure. As part of the transition, the Deming Plan, which involves overall quality control activities, was put in place.
In 1968, Bridgestone earned the prestigious Deming Prize for excellence in quality management.
In 1962, additions to the Tokyo plant was built to house the new Technical Centre, and a progressive system of research and development was established.
In 1967, the first passenger-vehicle radial tyre, the RD-10, was sold.
Overseas Expansion
In 1965, the first overseas plant since the end of the war was opened in Singapore and production was also commenced in Thailand in 1969.
In 1967, the Bridgestone Tyre Company of America was established to serve as the company's U.S. sales headquarters.
