Tyre Storage and TransportationStorage
Tyres in stock should be grouped into New; Used; and Worn Out tyres by size and type. Tyres held for matching should be classified by crown circumference or remaining skid and grouped for future use. Tyres wherever possible, should be stored in a cool and dry place. Storage out of doors is not recommended. Tyres should be stored upright and where this is not possible tyres should not be stacked more than three high. Refrain from storing tyres near electrical installations of petroleum products. Where possible, tyres should not be stored on mothballed vehicles. If this is unavoidable, the vehicle should be stored on blocks with tyres suspended. The tyres must be coated at regular intervals with Bridgestone Firestone protective paint and protected from weather exposure.
Tyres should be grouped as follows:
- New tyres (Not mounted on rims)
- New tyres (Mounted on rims)
- Matching tyres (Grouping by circumference or skid remaining)
- Demounted tyres (Unexamined)
- Demounted tyres (Examined)
- Scrapped tyres
Transporting tyres
When transporting tyres particular care must be taken to ensure that the beads and innerliner of the tyre are not damaged. Damage of even a minor no tyre could result in premature tyre failure due to air seeping into the body of the tyre causing a separation. Illustrated below are the correct and incorrect methods of transporting a tyre.
